An Interactive Nature Program For Preschoolers: "Learning From The Abenaki"

posted Saturday, November 11, 2017

Join a local community of proud parents and budding scientists with The Nature Museum's Mighty Acorns Club! The Mighty Acorns Club provides creative, exploratory preschool programs which celebrate curiosity and encourage a love and respect for the natural world.

On Friday, December 8, from 10 AM to 11:30 AM, the Mighty Acorns Club will experience "Being Connected to Nature: Learning from the Abenaki." Imagine a world without touch screens, computers, cell phones, or cars. Here in northern New England, there was a time when none of these things existed! We'll explore this early world by learning about the Abenaki, an indigenous people who have lived in New England and eastern Canada for thousands of years. You and your young nature-lover will investigate Abenaki artifacts, hear the Abenaki story of creation, and go on a scavenger hunt outdoors to test observation skills in nature. We will discover what life was like before our time, and how the Abenaki have developed a strong relationship with the land through hunting and gathering.

Drops-ins are welcome! Preregistration is encouraged but is not required. When pre-registered on-line, The Mighty Acorns Club costs $5 per child. Drop-ins are welcome at the door for $8. These programs are geared towards children ages 3 to 5. Caregivers and babes-in- arms are always welcome to attend for free. To learn more about upcoming programs and to register, visit www.nature-museum.org or call The Nature Museum at (802) 843-2111.

This Abenaki program is one of a series of monthly, interactive experiences for children ages 3 to 5 and their caregivers. Experienced and energetic environmental educators lead regular Mighty Acorns Club programs on the second Friday of the month at The Nature Museum. We begin each 90-minute program by meeting inside the Museum at 186 Townsend Road in Grafton, VT. Each program features time exploring the outside world, adventuring through forests and fields and inspecting The Nature Museum's grounds, gardens and ponds. All participants should dress in layers and prepare for the weather with appropriate outerwear and footwear.

As a non-profit organization, The Nature Museum provides natural history and science information, creates experiences that engage and enlighten audiences of all ages, and inspires stewardship of our natural world through programming and events. The Nature Museum offers hands-on natural history exhibits, nature programs for adults and children, and the annual Fairy House Festival.
